 Technological Approaches in Physical Therapy

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO), Physiotherapy Program Lecturer Ali Karaağaç gave information about Technological Approaches in Physical Therapy.

Istanbul Gelisim University Inst. See. "In the past, physical therapy relied heavily on manual equipment and traditional methods. Although the main purpose of physical therapy remained the same to help people heal, rehabilitate and strengthen their bodies, practices have evolved significantly," said Ali Karaağaç.

Referring to the new era of physical therapy technology and science, Lecturer Ali Karaağaç said, "This period starts with methods and tools. Physiotherapists used to rely only on their eyes, hands and traditional practices, but now they can combine this expertise with various digital and robotic technologies."

"Assessing a patient's gait, for example, once required a simple visual test. Now physiotherapists are using advanced gait analysis and video monitoring to make a more precise assessment for stroke rehabilitation, wound healing and neurological disorders. Similarly," said Ali Karaağaç. The use of crutches and other tools is supported by robotic devices and other advanced prosthetics.

“The outlook and timeline for problems like anterior cruciate ligament tears and ankle sprains has become much more important. On top of that, patients and physical therapists can even use smartphone apps to set baselines, set goals, measure progress, and even design exercise plans. "

Anti-Gravity Technology

"One of the latest developments has been the use of precision weight-lifting technology, sometimes referred to as bodyweight support. Anti-gravity technology helps physiotherapists reduce the impact on body weight. This helps reduce the risk of re-injury, provides painless rehabilitation, and optimizes recovery times."

Robotics

"Another major development in physical therapy is robotics. Although there are few examples, bionic limbs have emerged as the most useful and effective therapies. Bionics are wearable devices that offer enhanced assistance during activities such as walking, sitting, and standing."

What Does All This Mean for Patients?

“As new technologies such as antigravity technology, video surveillance, and robotics gain momentum, more effective and efficient physical therapy will become more widely available. This, of course, is great news for patients and their families. With the new technology, patients can return to their lives faster and more confidently. Each Although the fundamentals of physical therapy have been tested and true, the evolution of physical therapy means more precise and safer rehabilitation."
