There are 4 basic requirements for the formation of dental caries: host, microorganism, food and time. Unfortunately, the incidence of dental caries is high in our society, which has a poor habit of brushing teeth. In order to prevent this to some extent, preventive dentistry practices are very important. The use of fluoride, which is one of them, transforms the hydroxyapatite crystals in the tooth into fluoropatite crystals, making them more resistant to dental caries. Although we are cautious about pastes containing fluoride because of the risk of swallowing in children aged 0-6, both daily pastes and fluorinated gels and varnishes are used in children with high caries prevalence. Topical fluoride application is necessary. However, it is of course very important to use them as recommended by the dentist. Uncontrolled exposure to large amounts of fluoride can have some harmful effects on the body. After consulting your dentist, the benefit of topical fluoride application on our children's dental health within the scope of preventive dentistry practices is indisputable.
