 Cleaning without dental floss


Istanbul Gelisim University Lecturer Dentist Nuri Yeniev gave information about daily oral care. Nuri Yeniev said, "Brushing alone is not enough. Cleaning without using dental floss or an interface brush is incomplete."


It is very important to brush teeth twice a day, in the morning and evening, in order to ensure oral hygiene. However, flossing should also be an integral part of this daily routine. Because the contact points of the teeth cannot be completely cleaned with a brush. Even if the teeth are brushed, food residues remain at the interfaces. These food residues can cause cavities and bad breath as long as they stay there. A serious part of the cavities we see are these interface cavities. For this reason, it is necessary to use dental floss before going to bed at night. Otherwise, a favorable environment for dental caries is created by decreasing our salivary flow during sleep. Our patients may have difficulties in the first days when they start using dental floss, but if they continue to use it, they will gain a habit and will be able to use it comfortably.
 
Mouthwashes, mouth showers and interface brushes can also be used to provide oral hygiene, but the two most basic elements are brushing and flossing. The use of dental floss is very important not only for our teeth but also for our gums. Since it contributes to the healthier gums, it also prevents gum bleeding if there is no other reason. For this reason, it is necessary to brush the teeth half an hour after breakfast in the morning and use dental floss before going to bed at night.
