A Lifetime Women's Health Problems
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) Lecturer Sibel Haklı states that the difficulties of being a girl in Turkey can start when they are still in the womb for some, unfortunately, she faces situations such as being unwanted due to gender, withholding love, and lack of care. reported that.
Although it varies from society to society; Being a girl means that she came to help with housework, laundry and dishes. It means the child governed by oppression; Until marriage, the family rules, after marriage, the husband rules. Others often make the decisions that girls have to make themselves. If you are a girl, you cannot decide on your education, dressing and social life on your own. Girls in our country; He is the one whose mother will be taken care of, his hair is long and his mind is short. Being aware of the possibility of being verbally or physically abused at any time in the park, in the garden, on the bus, on the street, and learning as a child that you are not safe means living without anyone teaching it.The girl reaches puberty and tries to hide her physical body. Girls are not allowed to know their own bodies, their sexuality. Talking about this is one of the prohibited topics in terms of accessing the right information. Menstrual period is a shameful period, she is afraid to buy pads from the market, she is ashamed to tell her family and go to the hospital when there is a woman's health problem. Child marriages, virginity checks, and imam marriage marriages without a civil marriage are still on the agenda in some regions. Girls are sometimes married off to their rapist. She is her own child, but she is pregnant, she tries to live her childhood with her baby. 90% of young people who do not use contraceptive methods as well as active sexual life at an early age are faced with pregnancy within the first year. Most of the married young people experience their second pregnancies before completing their youth period. The probability of women getting sexually transmitted infections increases and their health deteriorates. While pregnancy and childbirth are risky situations in all age groups, this risk is unacceptable in childhood. The risk of death for both the woman and her unborn baby increases. If a woman has infertility, which we call infertility, life can be more difficult for that woman in some societies. The infertility treatment process can result in mental distress, even with the spouse making another marriage.Violence occurs in every period of women. A male-dominated violence from her father, her lover, her husband. Both psychological and physiological violence. As a result, depression, unhappy mother, unhappy child, deaths.Unwanted unplanned pregnancies occur due to lack of family planning knowledge. Involuntary abortions, abortions or unwillingness to take care of their born baby are encountered. During pregnancy, women face many risks. Abortions and death can be seen due to the accompanying psychological, economic and spousal support.Cancer is one of the common problems in our society. Uterine, ovarian and cervical cancers are seen in women, and breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. It should be checked regularly from the adolescence period and awareness programs should be created for women about breast self-examination.In addition to housework, women may be obliged to take care of many people such as patients, babies, children and the elderly. As a result of this invisible effort, it also brings with it some common health problems. Especially the problems caused by the strain on the spine and joints, hernias, etc. are health problems that can cause serious, painful and permanent damage.Menopause and the physiological and psychological changes that occur with it are situations that will be experienced for every woman. Supporting physiological changes and emerging health problems with preventive practices and, if necessary, treatment methods is one of the most basic rights of women to lead a healthy life in their advanced ages. It occurs more easily with the effect of physiological and hormonal changes compared to the pre-menopausal period; cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, prolapse of genital organs (desensus prolapse), cancer can be encountered. However, these diseases are not seen as health problems that women are exposed to due to gender burden in the health system. Aging brings with it loneliness and loss of income in women. The care services and treatments of this period should be supported by creating social systems.Lect. Sibel Haklı emphasized that by supporting the education of our girls at every stage of life, we need to raise strong women who are firmly on the ground. Habitual behaviors, formed prejudices, moral rules of society, and deprived resources can lead to high walls in front of women's access to health. From nutrition to dressing, from sexuality to working conditions, to health services that cannot be obtained, we should provide studies and trainings on situations that directly affect women's health, and we should be united.
