The Importance of Skin Care
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO), Hair Care and Beauty Services Program Lecturer Pelin Özgünay Gave Information About Skin Health
Our skin reflects our origin, lifestyle, age and climate type of the region we live in. Skin color, tone and smoothness, pigmentation, skin surface characteristics determine the health of our skin. Today, the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry offers a wide range of products for skin health.
“In the last decade, our perception of skin care has expanded and we can say that it has relaxed the skin. This umbrella term, which includes cleansing in its essence, has created integrity in skin care with the restoration of the barrier function of the skin and its careful protection. Today, modern skin care products include cleansing, soothing, restoring, strengthening, thus keeping the skin in good condition. Correctly used skin care products play an important role before medical aesthetics, as well as preparing the skin for daily life. It is known that it is often based on an effect, including its claims in the promotion of skin care products. " said
“The emphasis on skin care changes with increasing age
Lecturer Pelin Özgünay “Basically, skin types are perceived as oily skin or dry skin. Although this perception is mostly correct, it will not be enough to talk about a single skin type in our geography. In fact, the expectation that skin care products will perform better arises depending on the aging of the skin. Whether a skin type is oily or dry, there will be a slowdown in skin cells depending on age and a mature skin type will emerge. As a result of the decrease in sebum secretion, which prevents the evaporation of moisture in the dermis, thinning of the skin increases. Irregular staining occurs as a result of insufficient melanin secretion by the pigment cells. These spots are exacerbated by the effect of the sun. In the hands, it is more in the neck area. The slowed blood circulation causes the skin to lose its pink color. The skin looks dull and pale. The journey of the cell, which starts under the epidermis, ends after 28-30 days in young people, when it accumulates on the surface of the skin as dead cells. This process increases to 45-50 days at the age of 40s. This statistical information sheds light on where we can prevent the aging process.
Skin care and skin protection play an important role throughout life. With increasing age, the importance of soothing, healing and strengthening increases. This special care must be carried out with the cleaning process. The character of skin care shifts should make the skin look smoother, healthier, more therapeutic and preventative. Although the skin problems in the primary areas change throughout life, the need for care and protection becomes even more important due to aging. At this stage, when the peeling (exfoliation or peeling) process is performed by experts in skin care applications, it is seen that it exhibits a preventive attitude in the long term. While mechanical and chemical peelings clean the dead skin that has dried out and lost its function, it also accelerates the production of living cells from below. Cells reproduce by dividing. The proliferating cells proliferate in the epidermis and are pushed upwards. Dead cells that flatten and dry on the surface are shed at every new cell formation from the bottom. Shedding the skin naturally from the skin is natural exfoliation. However, there are different peeling techniques used to relieve various skin conditions. Such applications are called medical exfoliation. Dermabrasion, laserbration, deep-light chemical peels etc. While the applications are made by skin doctors, various methods are applied in beauty salons.
“Fruit acids (AHAs) regenerate the skin”
Alpha Hydroxyl acid - a type of chemical peeling consisting of fruit acids, substances found in grape, lemon, apple, vinegar, sour milk and cane sugar. With natural emery glycolic acids, the cell structure of the corneum layer is softened, stubborn skin is dissolved and keratinization is easily removed. Lines are reduced and fine lines are eliminated. By regulating the activities of the pigment cells, the spots are completely or partially destroyed. Collagen formation is stimulated by the activation of special enzymes in the deep layers. The elasticity of the skin is provided by increasing the moisture retention feature of the skin. The ability of the active ingredients to penetrate the skin is increased. Oil production of the skin is balanced. Rough skin appearance is removed, providing a smooth, delicate, clear appearance. It can be applied to all skin types. Rates over 40% are used by doctors for deeper applications. AHA products developed for the treatment and care of specialists in institutes are generally used in a certain application period. This period can vary between 6-8 weeks and the reactions of the person being cared for are measured with new tests performed every week. As in every institute care, there are products with lower concentration (3-5%) for use at home in AHA care. However, it is not known to what extent these products used at home can provide the above-mentioned improvements. For this reason, the problems should be examined by experts first and made in terms of the appropriate institute.
Skin care is a much needed field today. Before the development of medicine and new medical aesthetic applications, a correct and systematic skin care prepares the skin in order to get effective results. Taking care of the cleanliness and care of our skin, not only in terms of aesthetics but also in terms of health, is very beneficial in terms of preventing problems such as wrinkles and deformation that will occur as we age. Therefore, with the precautions and care you will take for your skin, you will not endanger your skin health.” He used his expressions.
