Use of Fiber Posts in Dentistry

Istanbul Gelisim University Lecturer Nuri YENİEV made statements about the use of fiber posts in dentistry. Yeniev said, "Fiber posts provide the opportunity to restore teeth with serious material loss."

Our primary goal in today's dentistry has become to protect the teeth and ensure that they remain in the mouth for a long time without harming the patient. For this reason, we try to avoid tooth extractions as much as possible. However, sometimes teeth with excessive substance loss cannot be restored with filling alone. In the past, we had to pull teeth that we could not restore. However, at the moment, we have the opportunity to restore the teeth thanks to the posts applied after root canal treatment and the superstructure fillings we call core.

Post-core systems enable the filling to be more durable by taking support from the root, just like the building gets support from its foundation. However, due to the risk of causing vertical root fractures, the rods commonly made of fiber are fixed with adhesive after the appropriate preparation.

Depending on the extent of the loss of substance in the tooth, we may also have the situation of covering the teeth after the filling. In this veneer process, metal-supported porcelain or zirconium crowns are generally used. After this successful treatment, the patient not only uses his own teeth, but also avoids surgical procedures such as implants after extraction or treatments that wear support teeth such as bridges.
