Tempora Mandibular Joint Disorders
Şenel Çavuşoğlu, Head of the Istanbul Gelisim University Dental Prosthesis Technology Program, gave information about tempora mandibular joint disorders.
Tempora Mandibular Joint Disorders are recurrent pain or joint dysfunction in the jaw joint and chewing muscles. This problem, which can occur due to various reasons, is the main reason of the loss of harmony of the surface of the jaw joint and the disc in the joint. Continuous clenching of teeth, grinding of teeth, posture disorders, one-sided chewing habits, closing disorders of the jaw and diseases in the teeth are possible causes of Jaw Joint Disorders. However, there may also be psychological reasons such as traumas. This disease, which is more common in the middle-aged group, can negatively affect the psychological and familial conditions of the patients if left untreated. What should patients with jaw joint disorders pay attention to:
The habit of chewing gum should be abandoned.
Teeth clenching and grinding problems should be solved.
Excessive stretching should be avoided.
Unilateral chewing should be avoided.
When you wake up in the morning, compress the joint area with a hot towel.
A stress-free life should be maintained as much as possible.
In addition to finding alternatives such as physical therapy, orthodontic treatment and prosthetic treatments can be counted in eliminating the causes of the disease. Artocentesis, arthroscopy, botox application and some joint operations and surgical treatments are also available.
