 Artificial Intelligence Technology in Dentistry

One of the faculty members of Istanbul Gelisim University Dental Prosthesis Technology Program, Dr. Umut Özdal gave information about artificial intelligence technology in dentistry.

Artificial intelligence is a field that encompasses a wide range of new technologies that continue to impact everyday life. The evolution of artificial intelligence enables the analysis of big data, which in turn improves the process of providing reliable information and making decisions. In the future, the AI-based comprehensive care system is expected to facilitate advanced decision support tools to create high-quality patient care and innovative research and development. An innovative interprofessional coordination among authors, clinicians, researchers, and engineers is believed to be key to AI development in dentistry as well. Despite possible misinterpretations and concerns about patient privacy, it is argued that artificial intelligence will continue to connect with dentistry from a comprehensive perspective because of the need for precise treatment procedures and instant information exchange.

Moreover, such developments have begun to allow professionals to share big health-related data and provide insights that improve patient care through hospitals, healthcare companies, researchers, and patients. Artificial intelligence technology is used by modeling teeth in virtual reality environment in today's dentistry education and in different areas of dentistry. Especially in implant supported prosthetic restorations, which is one of the most frequently applied treatments, artificial intelligence products have found current use with the designs of chewing robots that can reproduce the jaw movements and the forces generated during chewing, and the analysis of the forces transmitted to the simulated peri-implanter bone during chewing.
