Our Student Sedef and Ballet Art
Sedef Karakış, a student of the Health Services Vocational School Child Development Program, and Lecturer Emek Uçarman Özgen interviewed. He talked about the ballet art among Sedef's passion and hobbies.
Hello Sedef. Can you introduce yourself to us?
Hello of course. I am Sedef Karakış, a 2nd year Child Development and Foreign Trade 1st year student, and I am 19 years old. I do ballet and I improve myself in this field.
How did you start ballet? How long have you been doing it?
When I had a sensitive childhood when I was going to primary school, I started with the guidance of my guidance counselor teacher and left it in 2-3 weeks. While my family was trying to help me find myself, I got lost because I couldn't understand what my talent is, what I enjoy doing. When I was in middle school, I found myself and wanted to be a ballerina, but I was 14 years old and I was afraid that I couldn't do something I wanted so much for the first time because there was a pattern and "You can't do ballet after the age of 6" Of course, my desire prevented this and I found a ballet studio. I started ballet. Now, I'm glad I listened to myself. I've been going ever since.
What kind of art is ballet? It seems difficult, but is it really?
I can say that the whole body of ballerinas, especially their feet, underwent micro-evolution. You have to work with the same discipline and dedication for many years, and I think you need to have a strong will. Therefore, "ballet", which is the art of rules and discipline, is more difficult than it seems.
How do you feel while doing ballet, Sedef?
I feel sensitive, light and free, which makes me happy. Above all, I feel that I am myself and that I belong there.
Do you think ballet will be a plus in your future career?
Yeah I think. I will have started my career as a disciplined, planned and responsible person, and I think that ballet has made a great contribution not only to my professional life but also to my life physically.
What are your recommendations to your friends from IGU who want to make art and read this interview?
First of all, thank you for reading our interview. Yes, you need to have certain skills to be able to make art, but if you don't have talent, it doesn't mean you can't make art, every art requires some passion and creativity, which can be earned later. I know and understand that it is financially difficult to perform any art in our country. Finally, I wish everyone could one day be able to do something they are happy with, not just what they are successful or imposed by society.
